Obama’s fury: Pharaoh, Israel and Jewish Redemption

US President Barack Obama is digging a hole for himself of Biblical proportion. His animus for Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seems to know no limit—especially now that Netanyahu has confounded all US efforts to use the Israeli ballot box to remove him for office.

The US administration has done everything it could to get rid of Netanyahu. Everything has failed.

Even defamation hasn’t worked.

First, the US spied on Israel and misrepresented what it discovered to demonize Israel (Armin Rosen, “The most striking aspect of the Israeli spying leak”, Business Insider, March 24, 2015). Then, it sent men and money to Israel to create an “Anyone but Bibi” election campaign against Netanyahu (Roy Arad, “The Obama campaign strategist who could break the Israeli elections wide open”, Haaretz, January 26, 2015). Then, it brought Arab leaders to the US to train them how to get out the Arab vote (Ari Yashar, “Bibi's Strategist: Obama Meddled More Than You Know”, Arutz Sheva, March 23, 2015). Then, it hired buses to cruise through Arab neighbourhoods on Israel’s election day in order to gather up Arabs to deliver that vote (ibid).

It all failed.

Like a virus that spreads an infection at light-speed through the body, Obama’s poisonous anti-Israel hostility spread through his administration. His fury enflamed, he sent his servants to attack Israel. Susan Rice, Obama National Security Advisor, went on the US interview program, Charlie Rose. She  accused Netanyahu of having created US-Israel problems because of his ‘partisanship’ (Morton A Klein and Daniel Mandel, “Cause of strained US-Israel relations: Obama’s hostile policies”, Jerusalem Post, March 18, 2015).

US Secretary of State John Kerry did the same thing with the same words. First, he criticized Netanyahu’s “outspoken condemnation” of US efforts to secure an Iranian nuclear deal (Arshad Mohammed and Allyn Fisher-Ilan, “Kerry questions Netanyahu's judgment as U.S.-Israel row deepens”, Reuters, February 25, 2015). Then he echoed Rice’s accusation. He said Netanyahu had injected destructive partisanship into U.S.-Israeli relations (ibid).

Just weeks after Kerry’s and Rice’s accusations--which the Jerusalem Post (above) found to be baseless--Obama appointed known anti-Israel advocate Robert Malley to lead the powerful National Security Council.  Caroline Glick called Malley a ‘serial Israel-basher’ (“Israel’s next 22 months”, Caroline Glick. Com, March 13, 2015). The man hopes to help Obama. His record suggests he’s eager to install a Hamas-friendly peace in the Middle East (ibid).

Obama is frustrated. His hostility splashes back into his face. In a stinging essay, Armin Rosen (Business Insider, above) pointed out that the US accusation that Israel had spied on the US looks suspicious: the accusation comes from anonymous sources, with no proof cited (ibid). Instead, the only confirmed spying revealed by the ‘leak’ was that the US had spied on Israel.

Rosen’s comment on all this was: “So US officials disclosed a confidential counter-intelligence operation against an ally in order to float a factually vague accusation that that ally was in fact spying on them” (ibid).

Charles Krauthammer wrote that what’s shocking here is not Israel spying [if it did]. What’s shocking is Obama’s behaviour. Krauthammer put it this way: “So what's the big charge against the Israelis, that they shared [information] with Congress? Isn't it the obligation of a White House administration negotiating the most important deal in a generation that it should share information? This is secret information? So the White House is withholding it from the Congress of the United States? That in and of itself is rather shocking” (“Krauthammer: "Shocking" That Obama Admin Is Bothered By Israeli Spying When It Withholds Information From Congress”, RealClearPolitics, March 24, 2015).

Israeli officials, meanwhile, including Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon , Strategic Affairs Minister Yuval Steinitz and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman have all adamantly denied that Israel had spied on the US during the Iran talks (Stuart Winer and Lazar Berman, “Israel denies it spied on US for info on Iran talks”, Times of Israel, March 24, 2015).

Could the US accusation of Israeli spying be bogus? Krauthammer thinks so. He suggested that Israel didn’t need to spy on the US to get ‘secret’ information about the Iran talks. Instead, Israel could easily have gotten it from eavesdropping on the Iranians. They could also have gotten it openly from the French. The French participate in these talks. They’re dismayed by how much Obama and the White House have given away. They’re largely opposed to what the US is doing (ibid).

Regarding US hypocrisy towards Israel, at least one reporter has asked State Department spokesperson, Jan Psaki, “When the Supreme Leader of Iran is continuing – in the middle of these negotiations--…to make statements like “death to America,” how is that not problematic for you?” He also asked how the State Department could allow such language to slide without comment while at the same time hold the Prime Minister of Israel to comments he made and has since changed (“AP Reporter to Psaki: You Let Iran Slide For "Death to America" Chants But Hold Netanyahu To Different Standard”, RealClearPolitics, march 24, 2015).

Obama and his minions are digging a Biblical hole for themselves. Virtually everyone can see it. The Obama administration ups the ante in their gamble to demonize Jewish Israel by giving a free pass to Hamas terror, a free pass to the Fatah goal of erasing Israel (see their logo) and a free pass to viciously anti-America/anti-Israel Iran--while they demonize the Jewish leader of the Jewish state.

The people who write the news awaken. They see Obama’s fury (Video: “Romney on Netanyahu: "Hell Hath No Fury Like An Obama Scorned", RealClearPolitics, March 24, 2015). They see how a legitimate election victory by Benjamin Netanyahu becomes for Obama an insufferable “act of insolence” (Rush Limbaugh, “Obama Plots Revenge Against Israel”, The Rush Limbaugh Show—transcript, March 19, 2015).

The press sees how Obama hardens his heart against Israel. They see Obama as driven by fury, rage and revenge. They now suggest that his behaviour becomes reckless and shameful (Jay Sekulow, “Obama’s revenge against Israel”, Fox News, March 19, 2015).

They see the emotional violence of Obama’s rage (“Obama’s Israel Tantrum”, Wall Street Journal, March 24, 2015). They see a Pharaoh-like Obama intent upon destroying Netanyahu “at all cost” (Sara Noble, “Obama’s Plan to Destroy Netanyahu”, Independent Sentinel, March 24, 2015).

To Jews, this Obama looks familiar. Jews have seen such men before, most notably in Egypt, in the Exodus Redemption story.

Will Barack Obama play a role in the Story of the Final Jewish Redemption? That Story requires a powerful world leader to plot to destroy Israel. Is Obama that leader?
